Rodeo Houston | 2019

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, also known as Rodeo Houston or abbreviated HLSR, is one of the largest livestock exhibitions where one of the richest regular-season professional rodeo events take place. Held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, it is known to bring in huge crowds from all over the world. This year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo takes place February 25 – March 17, 2019.

According to www.rodeohouston.com, “The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ promotes agriculture by hosting an annual, family-friendly experience that educates and entertains the public, supports Texas youth, showcases Western heritage and provides year-round educational support within the community.”

The four pillars that make up the HLSR are Agriculture, Education, Entertainment, and Western Heritage.

Agriculture

The Rodeo host exhibitors from across Texas to compete for the chance to become a Houston champion. Events include livestock and horse shows, judging competitions and contests, and the calf scramble which takes place after the rodeo action.

Education

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been committed to the youth of Texas ever since it began. Each year there are more than 800 scholarships awarded to Texas students; currently, the value of these scholarships is more than $50 million.

Entertainment

Each night after the rodeo action settles, entertainers of all genre step foot on a newly renovated star-shaped stage to perform. This year’s entertainment features artists such as Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, Kings of Leon, Panic at the Disco, George Strait, and more! Weekday rodeos begin at 6:45 p.m. with the entertainer taking the stage around 8:45 p.m. and weekend rodeos begin at 3:45 p.m. with the entertainer taking the stage around 5:45 p.m.

 

 

 

 

Western Heritage

With more than 34,000 volunteers serving on 108 committees of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, each group hosts many different events to celebrate Western Heritage and raise awareness of Rodeo season. Events include, Go Texan Day, Black Heritage Committee Western Gala, Rodeo Run, Superstar Rodeo, and more.
