The classic baseball cap got a new upgrade from McIntire Saddlery, a company with a long tradition of excellence in leatherwork, when Miranda McIntire put intricate leather patches on this Western wardrobe staple.
South Texas Tack currently carries five cap designs by McIntire as well as a slew of earrings, belts and other accessories, all featuring the creative style McIntire Saddlery is known for, but bringing bright, southwestern colors and designs to the patches.
“It all starts with things I like or things I grew up around,” McIntire said. “I try to draw ideas from ranch life, leather, natural things occurring on leather, and then try to bring the fashion into it.”
For the last 18 years, McIntire has done her own leather working, but she eventually felt like she needed a new challenge.
“I just felt like I hit a wall creatively, needed something new. I had the opportunity to start a wholesale line, so I started looking at accessories,” she said. “I’m tooling stuff anyway, so I decided to do the patches, and then that lead into earrings, and that lead into a shirt design to match the patches and earrings.”
Even though McIntire says whatever she designed most recently is her favorite, she finds herself reaching for the Turquoise Stone Patch cap that features the a round leather patch with bright turquoise embellishment reminiscent of a belt buckle that inspired McIntire. If you’re obsessed with turquoise too, check out the coordinating earrings.
No matter what style you reach for, from a Spring Cactus scene to the Texas flag, these caps will stand out among traditional ball caps for women.
